Not much to know about these so called Tartu skulls, probably produced in early 1944 or late 1943 (I believe the early 1944 assumption).Venepoeg kirjutas:Please tell me, what is the story of that type? When and how many of them was produced?
Tartu type collar tab badges were produced in the Tartu medical instruments factory - so maybe the skulls and cap eagles were produced there too?
Here is my Tartu skull ...

A bit of OT:
Skulls were in use in 1943 maybe even in 1942. Here's a picture of group of mobilized men on their way to Heidelager training camp. I do not think anymore they were produced in same factory in Tartu that did the collar tab. Prongs are different. I belive they were produced by the same maker(s) that did Army cap badges before the war(same style prongs) and during the German occupation they started to produce them to SD first perhaps? And later (1944) the production was increased. The guy on the picture is wearing a black? overseas cap. What was the unit that wore black or was it dark brown uniforms with piping if I remember correctly.
Just my thoughts though.
