Re: Bernhard Tarkmeel
I have visited multiple times this farmhouse, where Bernhard was born and lived early years of his life. I knew very well his brother Lembit (aka "Tatu Liu"), who was a former Red Army officer and teacher in local elementary school. Lembit told me once: "I had a brother, he was a young boy when Germans forced him to join the army and they killed him because of desertation attempt on September 1944 in Tallinn". Then I believed him, but later understood that he lied to me. Bernhard was not a young boy then and he was an officer in SS. Impossible is also that his brother did not know that Bernhard lived after WW2 in Canada. But during the Soviet Union time it was not good to have such relatives and I think Lembit just used to lie about his brother to everybody and in his CV. Also, Lembit was a communist and for him maybe his SS-officer brother was literally dead...
